Welcome to another Mindful Monday, dedicated to supercharging your goal setting for 2019!
Last week, we took some time to rewrite our thoughts toward goal setting. I hope that exercise encouraged you to choose empowering thoughts about goal setting from a place of excitement for new growth & curiosity about the future you can create ♥︎
Today, I want to give you some tips for getting clear on what you really want. Because articulating goals that truly resonate with who you want to become totally changes the game.
I don't know if you're like me in this category, but I've always felt like a Jill of all trades. I've tried a ton of things and knew if I applied myself, I could likely do well at them. But I didn't know what THE thing or what couple of things were really my thing, for the longest time! As such, goal setting remained rather generic and always had me reaching somewhere vague instead of somewhere truly personal, motivating and intentional.
So here are my best tips for getting clear on what you want to pursue this year:
1. Take a self inventory: What are some extra wild ideas you don't often let yourself say out loud? What excites & scares you? (see more on today's download :) These questions will help you pinpoint passions and natural areas of unique giftedness.
2. Clear away the distracting, mental noise: ignore other people's opinions. Read this post again to refresh yourself on why it is so empowering to do so. Goal setting is for you alone. As you get to work on articulating what YOU want to create and become this year, it is essential that the only influencing voice in your head is your own.
3. Everything that now is, once wasn't. It took someone dreaming up the impossible and believing in its certainty before it became possible. So, do not limit yourself to what you can do based 'on where you are and what you've already done'. If you do this, you will only ever get the same results or marginally better. Instead, entertain any reality. We will tend to our thinking throughout the process so that old limiting beliefs don't prevent success like they may have in the past. ♥︎
Next week is all about getting real with ourselves emotionally, and taking the time to identify the thought patterns that typically trigger us to blame and excuse our way out of meaningful progress with our goals.
THIS STEP IS OFTEN OVERLOOKED WHEN GOAL SETTING.
SUCCESS HINGES ON THE COMMITMENT WE MAKE TO PROACTIVELY MANAGING OUR THOUGHTS ALONG THE WAY.
In the past you may have thought of obstacles that 'prevented success' as neutral circumstances, but I assure you (as I've experienced this personally, time and again) a learned pattern of thinking is at the root of all of our actions.
So if this is the year you want to make meaningful progress on something that matters to you, enjoy this week's exercise and then get excited for next week! We are going to thoughtfully and emotionally prepare ourselves for significant self growth and success this year!
